Important Trash Alert
INDIANAPOLIS – Due to the largest snow storm the city has seen in several years, the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) retrofitted 25 trash trucks with snow plows to compliment the fleet of 82 snow plow trucks in their snow removal efforts on the city streets. Private contractors were also called to action and provided up to 100 pieces of equipment to help clear residential ‘feeder’ streets – the main residential streets that carry a neighborhood to a major thoroughfare.
The 25 retrofitted trash trucks will remain committed to the snow fight for the duration of the storm. Although trash pick-up was delayed for one day, the city is committed to resuming trash collection in Indianapolis/Marion County. Therefore, residential trash and recycling collection will resume tomorrow, Wednesday, February 14. For those residents with Tuesday collections that were affected by the suspension, they are advised to place their trash at the curb for pick-up on Wednesday, February 14.
All other residents are asked to place their trash out for pick-up on their regularly scheduled collection day. Crews will make every effort to collect the trash and recyclables on schedule; however, due to the inclement weather all scheduled collections may not be feasible. If trash is not collected, residents are encouraged to leave their trash out for collection the following day. All collections will be completed no later than Sunday, February 18.
The Mayor’s Action Center is a vital neighborhood services tool for the city of Indianapolis. Residents are encouraged to call the MAC at (317) 327-4622 if their trash has not been collected by Friday, February 16 to ensure collection no later than Sunday, February 18.
