Trash trucks to aid in snow removal efforts

Residential trash and recycling collections will operate on a slide schedule for remainder of the week

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Department of Public Works will have all hands on deck during tomorrow’s expected snow accumulation as they are retrofitting 25 trash trucks with snow plows to assist with the snow removal effort.

As a result, there will be no residential trash or recycling collection on Tuesday, February 13. Normal collection days will ‘slide’ to one day later if the resident’s normal collection day falls on or after Tuesday. Trash and recycling normally collected on Tuesday will be completed Wednesday, and so on, with Friday routes completed Saturday, February 17, weather permitting.

In addition to these 25 retrofitted trash trucks, DPW will have 82 snow plows hitting the city streets this evening. Private contractors have been notified to help clear residential ‘feeder’ streets – the main residential streets that carry a neighborhood to a major thoroughfare.
