Winter wonderland on display at the Circle
City, students celebrate SnowPlowPalooza 2007
INDIANAPOLIS – Today more than 800 Marion County students and teachers joined Mayor Bart Peterson in celebrating SnowPlowPalooza 2007, the city's unofficial start to winter.
Held on Monument Circle, nearly 80 snow plow blades were on display featuring artwork from 59 schools in the theme of 'Diversity Works.' In addition to the snow plow blade showcase, several community organizations provided educational games and activities.
"Thanks to talent and creativity of our young people, the city will plow ahead into the winter weather season with style," Mayor Bart Peterson said. "I'd like congratulate the teachers and students involved with SnowPlowPalooza 2007 and thank them for their outstanding contribution to our city's snow fleet."
Last week, staff from the Indianapolis Department of Public Works judged the snow plow blades and the winners are:
Elementary School Division · Best Use of Color: Muhammad's School · Best Use of Theme: Central Elementary School · Most Creative: Our Shepherd Lutheran · Most Original: South Grove Intermediate School
Middle School Division · Best Use of Color: St. Pius X School · Best Use of Theme: Christel House Academy · Most Creative: Beech Groove Middle School · Most Original: Guion Creek Middle School
High School Division · Best Use of Color: Pike High School · Best Use of Theme: Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired · Most Creative: Perry Meridian High School · Most Original: Scecina Memorial High School
Event sponsors included Radio Disney, Papa John's Pizza and Coca-Cola. The Indianapolis Department of Public Works would also like thank Sherwin Williams and MAB Paints for their donation of paints and supplies and the University of Indianapolis, AFSCME Local 3131 and AFSCME Local 725 for their financial support.
