'Tis the Season to Recycle
Don't forget to recycle your used electronics and household hazardous waste after the holidays
INDIANAPOLIS – With the holidays underway, the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) would like to remind residents to "eCycle" their old electronics instead of throwing them away this holiday season.
Residents can drop off their used electronics at any of the city's three permanent ToxDrops sites after the holidays and throughout the year. eCycles/ToxDrops sites are open on alternate weekends from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations:
Traders Point (7400 Lafayette Road): First and third Saturday of the month Perry Township Government Center (4925 S. Shelby St.): Second and fourth Saturday of the month IPD Training Academy (9049 E. 10th St.): First and third Saturday of the month.
eCycles will accept any make or model of cell phones, computers (laptop or desk model) and computer components including hard drives, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice and joy stick controllers, PC cards and circuit boards, PC speakers and microphones, USB devices, external power supplies and gaming accessories.
In addition, everyone is encouraged to take part in the Post Holiday Recycling Extravaganza, sponsored by Indy Parks, DPW and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. Residents can recycle stripped Christmas trees (no ornaments, lights or other decorations) cardboard boxes, gift boxes (no wrapping paper), electronics (computers, televisions, cell phones, etc.), and batteries.
Be part of the Post Holiday Recycling Extravaganza by dropping off used or unwanted holiday goods at any of the following locations on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.:
· Broad Ripple Park, 1550 Broad Ripple Ave.
· Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair St.
· Garfield Park, 2450 S. Shelby St.
· Krannert Park, 605 S. High School Road
A component of the recently launched Recycle Indianapolis program, eCycles is part of an overall strategy to help protect our environment through the removal of hazardous material from the waste stream and by saving landfill space. Plus, all usable eCycles equipment will be refurbished and distributed back into the community.
