Mayor to announce tentative agreement with state and federal agencies

INDIANAPOLIS - Please join Mayor Bart Peterson as he announces a tentative agreement with state and federal agencies on a long-term plan to greatly reduce raw sewage overflows into Marion County waterways and improve the quality of life in many Indianapolis neighborhoods.

WHEN:  Wednesday, July 19, 2006
10:30 a.m.

WHERE: 2502 N. Pennsylvania
Former site of the Fall Creek Welcome Center

In October 2005, the City-County Council approved the mayor's Clean Streams Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative, a $435 million plan to reduce raw sewage overflows and sewer backups, address chronic flooding and eliminate thousands of failing septic systems throughout Marion County.

Since 2000, the city has invested more than $200 million to reduce raw sewage overflows and improve the sewage collection and treatment system.  These improvements have reduced raw sewage overflows by approximately 145 million gallons per year.  In addition, more than $11.5 million has been invested in flood control and drainage projects.
