Many cities including Washington D.C., Seattle, Houston, Chicago and New York City are moving away from traditional, single-space coin operated meters to multi-space meters.

Multi-space meters are new, ATM-style parking meters that accept coins and credit cards and are designed to reduce visual clutter, improve aesthetics, promote universal accessibility and improve ease of use.
