City designs web site to promote understanding of snow routes
Indianapolis – As the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) prepares to fight the onslaught of snow for the 2006-2007 winter weather season, DPW encourages residents to visit the city's snow Web page for information on city snow routes.
The new "Designated City Snow Routes" Web page is located at www.indygov.org/snow and is available for the public to either view as a county-wide map of DPW snow routes, or residents may type in their address to view priority streets.
DPW is providing this information to help residents and visitors remain safe during winter weather conditions, in addition, to assist residents with the most commonly asked question during the winter weather season, "Will my street get plowed."
"The Designated City Snow Routes tool will allow residents to see which street is a priority during any given snow fight . We simply want to assist with providing the answers to the questions we seem to routinely receive during the winter season," said DPW Director Kumar Menon. "We found that during the winter months residents are most concerned about how to maneuver through the city streets during snow fights, and we want to be sure to provide that information as efficiently as possible.
This new tool will allow residents to see the number of lane miles DPW is responsible for – and more importantly, allow for residents to decide upon their routes before traveling during snowy weather. DPW is responsible for over 6,900 lane miles under its jurisdiction.
In addition, residents are asked to visit the same Web site, www.indygov.org/snow, to receive other important information about DPW snow operations and action plans.
