INDIANAPOLIS – The 17th Annual White River Clean-up will be held tomorrow, Saturday, April 2 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Over the past 16 years, more than 5,500 volunteers have collected and disposed of more than 1.5 million tons of trash at this event.
Volunteers include participants from various community organizations throughout Marion County, including Friends of the White River. At the conclusion of the clean-up, Friends of the White River will be made honorary members of the Indianapolis Clean Stream Team for their long-standing commitment to improve water quality and environmental issues.
The recognition ceremony will begin at 11:40 a.m. with opening remarks made by Matt Klein, president of the Board of Directors of the Greenways Foundation, followed by the 2005 Clean Stream Team award presentation by Jim Garrard, director of the Indianapolis Department of Public Works.
For those participating in the event, refreshments, lunch and a commemorative t-shirt will be provided, as will gloves, trash bags and pick up sticks. Volunteers are still needed and anyone interested in volunteering may register the day of the event by coming to the staging area in the parking lot located at 1735 S. West Street. Volunteers should be dressed for the weather and outdoor work.
