Railroad work on Fall Creek Parkway to resume Monday

Traffic restricted to one lane in each direction all next week

INDIANAPOLIS –The City of Indianapolis Department of Public Works will resume construction on the railroad crossing on Fall Creek Parkway at Evanston Ave. starting Monday, April 5, 2004. As a result of the railroad crossing work, Fall Creek Parkway will be reduced to one lane in each direction from April 5th through April 9th. Evanston Avenue will be closed between 42nd and Fall Creek and the traffic signal at the intersection will be disabled. Drivers wishing to access Evanston Avenue should do so by following Keystone Avenue to 46th Street to Evanston.

Here is the remainder of the construction schedule:

Work from April 12, 2004 through April 16, 2004:

  • Installation of storm sewers
  • Sidewalk repairs on the 38th Street bridge east of Fall Creek

Restrictions:

  • Center lane restrictions on Fall Creek Parkway from the Monon Trail bridge south of 38th Street to Keystone Avenue.
  • 38th Street Bridge east of Fall Creek will be restricted to two lanes in each direction.

Work from April 19, 2004 through August 10, 2004:

  • Construction of the southbound lanes between 38th Street and 46th Street
  • Pavement rehabilitation on the 38th Street bridge east of Fall Creek

Restrictions:

  • Traffic will be maintained with two southbound and two northbound lanes
  • The right hand lane of northbound Fall Creek will become a right turn only lane at 38th Street
  • 38th Street Bridge east of Fall Creek will be restricted to two lanes in each direction until approximately May 21, 2004.

Other major improvements in the project area include additional left turn lanes at Keystone Ave., Kessler Ave., and 75th Street, with increased left turn storage capacity at several additional locations and signal changes throughout the corridor.

Construction on the 7 million-dollar project started last year and is funded using Federal and State money provided when the State of Indiana relinquished this stretch of roadway to the city. The overall project completion date is September 2004.
