PROJECT OPEN MARKET
Some of the most significant road closures associated with Project Open Market are about to go into effect. Starting tomorrow, June 26, 2008, the following work will begin:
A closure of Southeastern Avenue to through traffic between Shelby Street and Washington Street
- A closure of Shelby Street to through traffic at Southeastern Avenue
- A closure of Daly Street to through traffic from Pine Street to Shelby Street
- A shift in traffic on Washington Street (from just west of College Avenue to just east of Cruse Street) to the northernmost lanes, with two lanes in each direction
*The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) will be shifting the current Washington Street lane restrictions eastward for continued work on Project Open Market. Starting on or after May 29, 2008, the center three lanes of Washington Street will be closed from the interstate to just past Cruse Street (a few hundred feet east of Southeastern Avenue). As a result, there will be no westbound access to Washington Street from the Southeastern Avenue intersection (which also impacts Shelby Street).
Drivers on westbound Southeastern Avenue should take:
• State Avenue north to Washington Street or Michigan Street
Drivers on northbound Shelby Street should take:
• English Avenue east to State Avenue, north to Washington Street or Michigan Street
These lane restrictions are in effect 24 hours a day, for approximately three weeks, while storm sewer construction work is conducted.
Other lane restrictions and traffic changes are expected throughout the summer as work on Project Open Market progresses east of College Avenue along Washington Street. DPW encourages residents and motorists to visit www.indygov.org/dpw/openmarket to sign up for e-mail traffic alerts.
*Market Street and Fletcher Street southbound ramp system, where it runs parallel to I-65/I-70, will be restricted to one lane as part of an Indianapolis DPW project to reconfigure interstate access in the area. Click here for more Project Open Market information.
