Data Evaluation
Data from the surface water quality monitoring programs are reviewed and entered into a spreadsheet to identify and/or track trends and concerns. All data are compared to published IDEM Surface Water Quality Standards (Indiana Register, IAC Title 327 Section 2-1-6), which list specific limits for many parameters based on acute and chronic bioassessments and human health concerns. IDEM Drinking Water Standards and EPA guidance criteria (Water Quality Criteria "Gold Book") are used to assess the impact of other parameters. The Water Quality limits are designed to protect the quality of the surface waters of Indiana, to maintain the resident community of in-stream biologic life, and to provide a healthy environment for beneficial use by the community at large.
