The $435 million Clean Streams-Healthy Neighborhoods plan aims to improve the health and quality of life in many neighborhoods throughout Marion County by investing in improved sewage collection, treatment and flood control.

The plan includes:

  • Continuing Phase 2 of the city's long-term plan to reduce the century-old problem of raw sewage overflows into White River, Fall Creek and other neighborhood streams
  • Eliminating the onerous Barrett Law process to convert neighborhoods from septic systems to city sewers
  • Addressing high-priority flood control and drainage issues in neighborhoods throughout the county
  • Keeping up with growing neighborhood needs for sewer capacity and sewage treatment

Since 2000, the city has invested more than $200 million to reduce raw sewage overflows and improve the sewage collection and treatment system. These improvements have reduced raw sewage overflows by approximately 145 million gallons per year.
