Everyone has a role in cleaning our waterways – individuals, government, non-profit organizations, businesses, industry, and community groups. Here are some actions that you can take to protect our waterways and become part of the Indianapolis Clean Stream Team:
- Keep gutters and storm sewer drains clear of debris.
- Properly dispose of motor oil, antifreeze, battery acid and household chemicals. (Call 327-4TOX to learn how.)
- Disconnect downspouts and sump pumps connected to sewers. Learn how through the city's Correct Connect program.
- Dispose of pet waste properly.
- Dispose of fats, oils and grease in the trash and not down the drain. Learn more about the FOG program.
- Learn how you can reduce water use in your homes and businesses, and help keep pollution out of the storm drains.
- Compost leaves, branches and grass clippings.
- Create a school project
- Come to a public meeting and learn more about what is being done.
