The Operations Division of the Department of Public Works (DPW) consists of Maintenance Services, Water Management Services, Solid Waste Services, and Special Events Support. The Division is responsible for maintaining the City infrastructure including streets, bridges, alleys, sidewalks and curbs, traffic lights, traffic signs, storm water management, channels and levees, wastewater collection and treatment, street sweeping, abandoned vehicle enforcement, solid waste collection, and snow and ice removal. The Operations Division is also responsible for emergency support and coordination for DPW.
Excellent customer service is the primary goal of the Operations Division. Service requests are generally directed by the Mayor's Action Center to Customer Service Township Coordinators, who communicate directly with citizens. These requests for service are prioritized and responses are coordinated with the appropriate section in the Operations Division, and work scheduled as appropriate. Urgent requests are dispatched to "rapid response" teams in Streets, Traffic, Solid Waste, Water Management, and other appropriate sections for more immediate attention.
