INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (12-22-04) – Star Financial Bank presented 1,300 teddy bears to the Indianapolis Fire Department today.

The stuffed teddy bears and other animals were presented to firefighters at Station 32 in Broad Ripple by Star Financial Bank officials as part of the bank's "Bears for Badges" campaign. City officials present included Safety Director Robert Turner and Fire Chief James Greeson.

Star Financial Bank collected 4,500 bears and other stuffed toys. The toys were delivered to fire departments and police stations throughout northeast Indiana.

The Bears for Badges programs allows STAR customers and employees to donate stuffed teddy bears at 40 banking locations and they are then presented to the fire and police departments.

The stuffed animals provide comfort to children who are victims of fires, accidents and other stressful emergency situations. The bank has been operating the program for the past three years and has collected 9,000 bears.

The stuffed animals were distributed to Indianapolis' 26 fire stations to be put on the engines, ladder trucks and rescue squads as well as Battalion Chiefs cars and support vehicles.
