Volunteering
Volunteers are a vital source of support for both our animals and staff at Indianapolis Animal Care & Control and the key to our success! Our volunteers demonstrate:
- A pleasant, helpful, enthusiastic, and friendly manner;
- Caring and empathy toward customers, guests, staff, and animals;
- Knowledge of Indianapolis Animal Care & Control's purpose, policies and procedures;
- A general knowledge of pet management and pet behavior;
- Efficiency and organizational skills; and
- Oral and written communication skills.
To become a volunteer simply complete the online Volunteer Application.
Once your application has been received, the Volunteer Coordinator will contact you with information regarding upcoming volunteer orientations. Volunteer orientations are always held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6-8pm. Before volunteers can donate their time or services, all volunteers are asked to attend an orientation so you can become familiar with the shelter and its daily operations. To check monthly orientation dates for the year visit our calendar or call 317.327.1397. Volunteers are asked to donate just 4 hours per month.
