IACC Impounds Dog from Last Week's Attack, Files Charges
INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Animal Care & Control (IACC) has captured and impounded the white pit bull involved in an attack on Grey St. Tuesday morning. Two dogs attacked a 61-year-old man, leaving severe lacerations on both of his legs. One dog was shot dead at the scene by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD). The other dog remained at large.
IACC canvassed the neighborhood looking for the animal and went door-to-door to talk to neighbors for information. Thursday officers impounded two dogs, both pit bulls, from the address of 826 N. Grey St. The owner is Marcus Johnson.
"Marcus Johnson has a long history of interaction with IACC," said Deputy Director of Public Safety Steve Talley. "The fact that he has yet another offense is bad enough. The fact that he did not claim responsibility for the attack immediately is completely reprehensible. We will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law."
Johnson was issued a number of citations including:
· Two (2) citations for owner responsibility for an animal attack
· Two (2) citations for animal at large
· Three (3) citations for lack of permanent identification
· Two (2) citations for lack of rabies vaccination
· Three (3) citations for lack of rabies tag
Johnson was also charged with contempt of court and interfering with an investigation. A court date has been set for June 25. The fate of the impounded animals lies with the judge. The investigation is on-going and more citations may be issued to Johnson or to other parties.
