INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Animal Care & Control will host a regional ASPCA conference designed to prepare law enforcement and animal control officials to recognize and successfully prosecute animal cruelty cases.
“It is such an honor to host this conference,” said Leslie Fatum, IACC administrator. “Animal cruelty is an important issue that can lead to other crimes. It’s crucial that enforcement agencies receive proper training on the subject.”
The conference, titled “Investigating Animal Cruelty,” will be held at the Emergency Services Education Center at 700 N. High School Rd. Pre-registered attendees include police, prosecutors, judges, IACC officers and veterinarians. The conference is not open to the general public. Presenters include members of the ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement unit who work in New York City and are seen on the “Animal Precinct” television show.
Topics to be covered at the conference include: Working with prosecutors on animal cruelty cases, animal cruelty case study, Indiana animal cruelty laws, animal hoarding, blood sports, officer safety, and the role of veterinarians in reporting animal cruelty.
IACC will remain open to the public for normal business hours. Public requests for IACC services can be directed to the Mayor’s Action Center, at 327-4622.
