INDIANAPOLIS – Based upon information provided by Indianapolis Animal Care & Control, the City Controller’s Office suspended Nut & Butt Puppys operating license today. This announcement comes on the heels of the impoundment of 20 animals from this store. A hearing will be held on January 3, 2003, to determine further suspension or revocation of the store’s license.
Upon receiving numerous complaints, emails, and phone calls from concerned Marion County residents and upset and angry customers of the pet store, Indianapolis Animal Care & Control opened an investigation into the store’s policies, practices and procedures on December 2, 2002. At that time, the owner was issued 59 citations for care and treatment as well as one citation for running a kennel without a license.
On December 19th, all remaining animals, 20 puppies and dogs, were seized from Nut & Butt Puppys. All animals were saturated in feces and urine and most of the animals had upper respiratory infections and/or kennel cough, a highly contagious disease. Indianapolis Animal Care & Control will provide all medications necessary to return the puppies and dogs to their normal health.
Since Nut & Butt Puppies opened in November 2002, 63 puppies and dogs have been sold ranging in price from $200-$900. To date, at least 10 of the puppies sold have had serious illnesses or died.
If anyone has purchased a pet from this store or has any concerns, they are urged to call investigator Sgt. Jerry Bippus with Indianapolis Animal Care & Control at 317.327.1424.
