INDIANAPOLIS – Animal Care & Control officers, with the assistance of the Indianapolis Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, are going door-to-door in apartment communities severely damaged by Friday’s storm in search of lost family pets.
As the officers are finding pets, they are being removed from the area and transported to the city animal shelter located at 2600 S. Harding St. where they can be fed and properly cared for, if the owner is not located.
“We know how pets are an integral part of the family and we are doing everything we can to assist the community in finding their lost pets,” said Administrator Jim Garrard.
Animal Care & Control officers are located at each of the three command posts. The following pet recovery results are reported as of 2:45pm:
North Command – 38th/Mithoeffer
South Command – Carson/Thompson
South Command – Madison/Southport
Animal Care & Control officers will remain in those locations until approximately 6:00pm to assist residents in locating their pets.
If a family pet is missing calls can be made to Indianapolis Animal Care & Control at 317.327.1397. However, descriptions of the same animal can vary from one person to the next; so don’t rely simply on a phone call to identify your pet visit the shelter as well. Shelter hours are:
