Animal Care and Control fills two critical positions

INDIANAPOLIS – In keeping with both Mayor Peterson’s and Director Turner’s pledge to improve the city’s animal shelter, Administrator Jim Garrard announced today the hiring of two critical positions at Indianapolis Animal Care & Control.

Dave Wintz, kennel manager. In this position, Wintz will supervise the entire kennel operation for the Division, including animal care, adoption, veterinary care and euthanasia.

Wintz, who begins his new position on June 17, formerly worked as an Environmental Manager for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. Since July 1998, Wintz has been an active volunteer for Animal Care & Control and the Humane Society of Indianapolis where his activities have included escorting visitors, adoption counseling, animal behavior assessment and exercising dogs. In October 2001, Wintz successfully completed the Shelter Operations School and the Shelter Operation School for Managers Workshops sponsored by the America Humane Association. In addition, since March 2001, Wintz has been an active volunteer for the Humane Foundation of Boone County where he is currently raising funds to build a shelter. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems/Marketing from Xavier University.

Gary Throgmorton, operations manager. Throgmorton will be responsible for managing operations of Animal Care & Control including supervising staff, area leadership, and handling confidential and sensitive information.

Throgmorton, who begins his new position on June 17, most recently worked for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department as a jail chaplain. He also spent more than 13 years with the Department of Public Safety working for the Indianapolis Police Department as a district officer, arson investigator, traffic enforcement officer and training instructor. In his position as operations manager, Throgmorton will supervise two field supervisors, 20 animal control officers, one investigator and two dispatchers.
