Philosophy
"Indy Parks is committed to helping people with disabilities participate at their optimal level of independence and desire." We strive to provide services that focus on leisure related skills, attitudes and knowledge, there by improving social skills, self-awareness and leisure skill development.  We also seek to provide sport and recreational opportunities for the higher level disabled athlete.

Indy Parks and Recreation is ready, and willing to include you in our programs and activities! The Therapeutic Recreation Section recognizes that participants with disabilities benefit from Indy Parks and Recreation programs. Furthermore, Indy Parks and Recreation believes that all people deserve to participate in the least restrictive environment possible. Indy Parks and Recreation is committed to helping people with disabilities participate at their optimal level of independence. We are invested in the holistic development of individuals with disabilities. We strive to provide a continuum of recreational services that provide a lifetime of benefits.

Inclusion services are a priority at Indy Parks! In order to provide your family with the most inclusive program possible, we ask that you complete a brief therapeutic assessment.  Please the Therapeutic Specialist at 327-7251 to request your assessment.

NEW THERAPEUTIC PROGRAMS AT INDY PARKS:


Indy Parks Ability Water Ski Training Series
For Kids ages 8+

Every Thursday night from 5:30 - 8:30, May through September at the Municipal Gardens Docks


Beginning in June we will kick off another season of the Indy Parks Ability Water Ski Training Series.  These sessions will provide coaching and on-water practice for tournament water skiing events for adults and children with or without disabilities.  Adaptive water ski equipment is provided.  Open to those who may or may not be interested in competing in water ski tournaments.   All participants must wear a life jacket; non disabled program participants should be able to swim a minimum of 15 yards without stopping. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED ON A WEEKLY BASIS. The cost is $5.00 per session plus an additional fee is assessed from IWS. For more information contact John Kniesly at 317-208-6304 or by e-mailing

Motor Gym Club
Adults

Every Tuesday and Thursday from 1 - 3pm at Bethel Park, located at 2850 Bethel Ave, (off of Raymond and Bethel). 

Motor Gym Club is a wonderful drop in program for adults within the community who are currently in an assisted living program or are recent graduates of Camp Gather on the Move.  Meet new people and visit with old friends!  Bethel's gym is reserved just for you to enjoy fun activities such as volleyball, basketball, relay races, wall ball, bowling, soccer and more. Activities are geared to adults 18+ with intellectual and or physical disabilities accompanied by staff.  Cost is $1.00 per participant. New for kids! 
Rhodius Park "Accessible Playground"

Built with the assistance of the Allstate Foundation and the Injury Free Head Coalition, Indy Parks has it's first ever totally accessible playground.  Located at Rhodius Family Center, 1720 W. Wilkins Street - just three blocks north of Morris, from the intersection of Harding and Morris by the Lilly Tech Center.  The playground is 100% accessible by wheelchair on its upper and level features, as well around the entire perimeter.  The playground surface is accessible as are the swings, benches and adjacent picnic tables ensuring a wonderful family experience.
