Frequently Asked Questions
Major Taylor Velodrome
Can anyone ride on the Velodrome?
Yes , we do have Open Riding time. The fee is $5.00 per person per day.
Certain restrictions do apply: All riders must be at least 10 years of age, wear a helmet, sign a release (it is good for the entire year) and follow track rules. Helmets are available for rent for $1. We allow road bicycles and track bicycles but no BMX style bicycles. The track cannot be ridden when wet.
Please call for Open Ride times or check the online Major Taylor Velodrome/Skatepark/BMX calendar, as they change daily based on scheduled activities.
There is an age restriction - a child must be able to fit on a road bicycle (like a 10-speed). Smaller bicycles do now allow enough clearance on the track banking. In addition, BMX bicycle pedals are also too close to the ground.
Can we come and watch a bicycle race?
You bet! We would love to have you. Check out our Racing Section for a schedule of events. Most events are free, and our concession stand is open to serve you. Bike races offer a fun, inexpensive night out for the family. You can even see a view of the downtown skyline from our permanent seating for 3000!
Can we bring our own food & beverages?
We have a "no coolers, no glass and no alcohol allowed policy." Our prices at the Veli Deli concession stand are reasonable and the revenue helps support the Velodrome.
Can I bring my dog?
Sure, just keep him or her on a leash.
Do you have other events beside bicycle and inline racing?
Yes. We have hosted remote control car racing, concerts, and human-powered vehicles.
Can the Velodrome be rented?
Yes! Call 327-8356 for details.
