Indy Parks currently has 22 park rangers who are responsible for ensuring the Indy Parks' properties are safe for people to visit, and that park amenities and facilities are safeguarded. To this end, these rangers actively patrol the 206 park properties, and the Eagle Creek Reservoir; they also respond to calls from parks employees, receive dispatched runs, report maintenance shortcomings, respond to alarms at park facilities, assist park visitors and assist other law enforcement agencies as required.who patrol all park properties and enforce park ordinances. 

PARK CRIMEWATCH
The Park CrimeWatch program was created in an effort to further facilitate the Indy Parks mission of including "safe, clean and well-maintained park facilities for the community's use and enjoyment." The new program is an extension of the existing CrimeWatch program, which relies on community involvement to report suspicious activities and crime. Using existing resources, Park CrimeWatch teaches people how to properly spot and report criminal activity in their neighborhood parks.

Park Rangers Corporal Jay Thomas and Brian Lambert administer and supervise the Park CrimeWatch program. They are available to speak about the program to any community group interested in monitoring a park. For further information call the Ranger Station at 327-7140.

CADET PROGRAM
The Cadet Ranger Program was started in September 1998 and involves 15 to 20 years olds. Cadets receive 80 hours of training in first aid, CPR, traffic control, boating practices, all terrain vehicle operation, and natural resources. The Cadets actively monitor the Indianapolis Greenways on bikes, monitor Eagle Creek Park, work special events in the parks, and staff the Ranger Environmental Education Trailer. In order to become a cadet a person must be 15-20 years of age, be a resident of Marion County, be in good standing in the community, and have reliable transportation. This program provides an excellent opportunity for the youth of Marion County to learn life skills and at the same time donate time and energy to their community's parks.
