The 2009 plan was approved and adopted by the Board of Parks and Recreation, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and the Metropolitan Development Commission of Marion County.

As funds become available, park planners facilitate the creation of construction documents. For larger projects, Indy Parks often uses outside design professionals to prepare these documents for bid.Once a project has been bid, Indy Parks' construction management staff oversee the job from ground breaking to grand opening.

Master Planning
The Indianapolis-MarionCounty Park, Recreation and Open Space Plan sets the course for all of Indy Parks' property and resource development. Indy Parks operates 206 park properties and 8 Greenways throughout Marion County. Many of these parks have a park master plan, which is developed through a series of public meetings and direct a park's growth over the course of a 10-15 year period.
