Forestry Services

Indianapolis Parks Forestry is dedicated to public safety of our citizens and patrons of our parks and public spaces.

Hazardous Tree Evaluation
Forestry Inspectors receive hundreds of requests each year to investigate and evaluate tree issues in the parks and street right of ways.  These requests arrive daily from the Mayors Action Center, Citizen phone calls, and other City departments.  Each request is reviewed and prioritized and the appropriate action is made to ensure public safety.

Emergency Tree Response
Forestry crews are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year to respond to any and all tree- related emergencies.  Storm events, trees down or simply a branch in the road receives immediate attention by our trained staff.

Recycling
Indy Parks makes every effort to recycle all urban wood waste generated from our city parks and streets.  It is the environmentally sensitive way to dispose of wood debris without adding to our landfill and solid waste disposal challenges.

Comprehensive Tree Maintenance
Trained and certified arborists perform tree maintenance on trees within our parks and on City- owned property.  All tree work is conducted according to nationally accepted standards with quality control measures in place to assure each project is completed properly.

Community Awareness
Each year, our professional staff dedicates time to educate the citizens of Indianapolis.  Seminars, training and informational meetings are conducted to volunteers, neighborhood organizations, special interest groups, and other assemblies to expand the understanding of the importance of our Urban Forest.

Tree Plantings
In order to sustain our Urban Forest, new trees must replace or augment our existing tree inventory.  Annually, Indy Parks in cooperation with city partnerships, volunteers and other groups plant thousands of trees in our parks and along our city streets.

Vegetation Management
In addition to tree maintenance, low growing plants must be maintained along our streets and in our parks for safety and security.  Vehicular and pedestrian traffic must have a clear line of sight to insure safe passage, thus, "low trims" are conducted along miles of city streets and walkways.
