Advocacy

Did you know...
According to a survey conducted by the Trust for Public Land, each Indianapolis resident pays only $45 of tax dollars per year toward parks and recreation services, programs, greenways, and facilities?

That's 12 cents a day.

The benefits of parks and recreation are many:

  • Health and wellness
  • Economic development & neighborhood revitalization
  • Safety & crime prevention
  • Stronger families, more livable communities
  • Social services & education

Now, more than ever, Indy Parks needs your support to not only maintain your existing amenities and facilities, but to plan for and fund your future recreation and leisure needs.

Want to show your support?
Indy Parks is fortunate to have the support of  more than 30 park-specific advisory councils that help identify community needs and resources.  Also, five nonprofit foundations ("Friends" groups) serve to fund the needs of their respective park.  Indy Parks works closely with the Indianapolis Parks Foundation to facilitate grants and generate park advocacy from local businesses and organizations.  Additionally, the agency has created several recreation and leisure-specific advisory councils that work closely with the Mayor's Advisory Council on Disabilities, and the Mayor's Commission for Latino Affairs:

  • Indy Parks Arts Advisory Council
  • Advisory Council for Recreation and Disabilities
  • Recreation Advisory Council for Maturing Adults
