DEO Complaint Process

1. Complaint Filed – The Investigator will determine (1.) if the grievance is based on discriminatory acts occurring within ninety days of filing or if it is a continuing act. (2.) If the violation occurred within Marion County. (3.) If the grievance is employment related. (4.) If the employer employs more than six employees?

2. Complaint Accepted – A formal complaint is written.  The Complainant signs and signature is notarized.  This will include a statement of the allegation and the remedy that is being sought.  A copy is sent to the Respondent.

3. Investigation – The Investigator receives testimonies, documents, and witness statements from both Complainant and the Respondent.  The investigation is objective and provides both sides an equal opportunity to offer information to support their positions.

4. Findings – The finial step of the process is for the Administrator and the Equal Opportunity Advisory Board to determine if there is probable cause of discrimination.
