Meadows revitalization to reach major milestone as residents begin moving in to new townhomes
Indianapolis – Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell, community leaders and project partners will join together to help a former Parkwood resident, Ms. Luraline Anderson, move in to her new townhome. This marks an important milestone in the ongoing multi-million dollar revitalization effort taking place in the Meadows on the city's northeast side.
When: Tomorrow, Aug. 30, 11 a.m.
Where: 3715 E. 39th Street
Ms. Anderson will move back to the area where she lived for 20 years. As a resident at the former Parkwood Apartments, she witnessed the downslide of that public housing complex, which became an neighborhood eyesore and a haven for blight and crime.
The Parkwood Apartment buildings were razed in May to make way for hundreds of new, quality, affordable housing units that will spur millions of dollars of private investment in the Meadows. The major redevelopment initiative was made possible by federal grant dollars from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
