City to host final public land use meeting for Pike Township
Indianapolis – The land use planning phase of Indianapolis Insight, the update to the Comprehensive Plan for Indianapolis/Marion County, continues with the final public meeting for the Pike Township portion of the plan.
When: Monday, July 11, 7 p.m.
Where: Pike Township Government Center, 5665 Lafayette Road
As part of the comprehensive plan update, the City of Indianapolis’ Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD) is wrapping up the process of hosting several public meetings in each township to gather citizen input on land use. More than 100 public meetings have been held countywide.
Since the last public planning meetings in Pike Township, new information has been gathered and changes to the township’s landscape and land use have occurred, forcing modifications to be made to the draft plan. Most of these alterations are the result of zoning and variance changes, while others came directly from community input through the Citizens Advisory Committee for Pike Township. The meeting will allow the public to comment and ask questions on the amendments to the draft plan for Pike.
Indianapolis Insight, developed by DMD’s Division of Planning and extensive citizen input, is comprised of two phases: community values, which was completed in 2002, and land use. Both sections are required by state law as the basis for zoning and include both objectives and policies for future land use development that involves public ways, places, land, structures and utilities. The Comprehensive Plan also is required by a number of state and federal grant programs in which the city takes part.
The city expects Indianapolis Insight to be completed this year, and it must be formally adopted by the Metropolitan Development Commission.
The public meeting schedule is available online at www.indygov.org/dmdplan/indianapolisinsight.
