City to show-off former Central State site to prospective developers
INDIANAPOLIS – The City of Indianapolis and The Indy Partnership will host an event for developers interested in the future redevelopment of the Central State property on the city's near west side.
The event will give developers an opportunity to learn more about the property, tour the site and ask questions about the redevelopment process and the city's recent request for proposals (RFP).
When: TODAY, June 29, 3:30 p.m.
Where: The Medical History Museum, 3045 West Vermont Street
The city's RFP for Central State outlines the availability of more than 115 acres along West Washington and Tibbs Avenue and recommends a mixed-use development, with possible reuses ranging from commercial and retail, residential, educational, arts and culture and light industrial development.
Developers can obtain a copy of the RFP by calling 327-5823 or visiting the city's economic development web portal at imaps.indygov.org/ed_portal/. The RFP also can be picked up on the 20th floor of the City–County Building, 200 East Washington St.
Central State served as a state-run hospital for persons with developmental disabilities and mental illness for more than 150 years before it closed in 1994.
After lying vacant for nearly a decade, Mayor Peterson announced that the city would purchase the property from the state in March of 2003. He appointed an advisory commission comprised of neighborhood leaders and stakeholders to develop recommendations about the reuse of Central State. These recommendations were incorporated into the RFP.
