Nationally acclaimed community building expert to visit Indy Monday, speak at public forum
Indianapolis – Nationally recognized community development expert, Anita Miller, will discuss her ideas for building stronger neighborhoods during an upcoming community forum that is open to the public.
When: Monday, April 11, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Auditorium, Indiana Government Center South, 402 West Washington Street
A panel discussion involving local community leaders will follow Ms. Miller's comments, and then the floor will be open for attendees to ask questions of Ms. Miller and the panel members.
Ms. Miller is widely recognized for her contribution to the renaissance of the South Bronx as the program director for the Comprehensive Community Revitalization Program (CCRP). Designed and managed by Ms. Miller, the seven-year CCRP worked to build the capacity of community-based organizations in the South Bronx and lead efforts aimed at rebuilding the economic, social and human service infrastructures of deteriorated neighborhoods.
The forum, entitled "Creating a Vision of Comprehensive Community Development," is part of an ongoing effort to continue the community dialogue that began last October when Mayor Bart Peterson hosted the city's first Community Development Summit. The summit brought together nearly 400 residents, community leaders, business owners and neighborhood representatives to initiate a renewed vision for strengthening Indianapolis neighborhoods.
Since the summit, a strategy group comprised of civic leaders and neighborhood representatives has been meeting regularly and working to refine the issues and priorities identified at the Summit, outline a consensus vision for community development, and articulate an agenda to achieve the next steps for improving Indianapolis neighborhoods.
