New city television show provides voice for neighborhoods

Program provides registered community groups with opportunity to highlight initiatives, events

Indianapolis – The City of Indianapolis has launched a new television program focused on providing registered neighborhood and community groups with the opportunity to promote their organization. The show, "Know Your Neighborhood," features several segments hosted entirely by neighborhood leaders and provides a forum for groups to highlight ongoing initiatives and detail event and meeting times.

When: Airs Monday through Sunday at 6 a.m./p.m. and 12 a.m./p.m.

Where: Govt. TV2 (Ch. 17 on Brighthouse Networks and Ch. 28 on Comcast cable)

"Know Your Neighborhood," which is produced by the city-owned television station WCTY, is taped in studio once every two weeks. Community organizations interested in taping a segment for "Know Your Neighborhood" should call Ken Montgomery at 327-2018.

The program is the latest effort by the Peterson administration to improve communication between city government and neighborhoods and empower community organizations.

Since he took office, Mayor Bart Peterson has hosted quarterly meetings with leaders of local neighborhood groups. Last fall, the Mayor hosted the city's first Community Development Summit, which brought together nearly 400 residents, community leaders, business owners and neighborhood representatives to initiate a renewed vision for strengthening Indianapolis neighborhoods.
