’Tis the Season to Connect
Mayor Peterson calls on residents, businesses to share in giving spirit at
INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Bart Peterson today called on Indianapolis residents and businesses to share in the spirit of giving this holiday season by taking part in Indy Homeless Connect on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
Indy Homeless Connect is an all day event focused on caring and outreach where service providers, with the help of volunteers, will offer a number of services to those experiencing homelessness, including medical care, food, vision care, legal advice, free phone calls to family, and winter clothing.
When: Tues., Dec. 13, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m
Where: The Indiana Convention Center
“The holiday season certainly offers great opportunity for all of us to reach out to our fellow residents who face the daily challenges of living without proper food, shelter and other basic necessities,” Mayor Peterson said. “That’s what Indy Homeless Connect is all about, the community coming together to extend a caring hand to help our homeless neighbors.”
Peterson praised the many businesses that have stepped in to sponsor the event, as well as the hundreds of volunteers who have signed up to participate in Indy Homeless Connect. He said, however, there is still time and a need to engage more people in the effort.
The Mayor stated that there are a number of areas where volunteer support is needed, and event organizers are still seeking donations of packaged foods, winter wear and other items for the Dec. 13 event. Visit www.indyhomelessconnect.com to learn about volunteer opportunities and how to get involved in Indy Homeless Connect. Residents may also call 630-0853 ext. 209 for more information.
The goals of Indy Homeless Connect are to connect the homeless to core services, increase awareness of the local homelessness issue, and engage the community at-large in the city’s Blueprint to End Homelessness.
