Countdown to Connect: 14 days
A periodic release providing facts about homelessness and highlighting how residents and businesses can help by getting involved in Indy Homeless Connect
FACT: More than 15,000 people - our neighbors - experience homelessness in Indianapolis each year, and sadly, almost 30 percent of them are children.
Along with serving individuals, Indy Homeless Connect will aid families and children Indy Homeless Connect, the all-day event on Dec. 13 dedicated to outreach and care for the homeless, will offer services for individuals, as well as local homeless families and children.
Families and individuals attending Indy Homeless Connect will have access to a wide variety of services and essential items free of charge including medical care, food, mental health counseling, vision care, winter clothing and housing assistance. Non-essential, add-on services, like free phone calls, books, haircuts, youth activities and others, will also be available.
Modeled after a nationally renowned program in San Francisco, Indy Homeless Connect is an outgrowth of the city's Blueprint to End Homelessness. The goals of the Dec. 13 event are to connect the homeless to key services, increase awareness of the local homelessness issue, and engage the community at-large in a fight to end and prevent homelessness.
How to help There are a number of areas where volunteer support is needed, and event organizers are still seeking donations of packaged foods, winter wear and other items for the Dec. 13 event. Visit www.indyhomelessconnect.com to learn about volunteer opportunities and how to get involved in Indy Homeless Connect. You may also call 630-0853 ext. 209 for more information.
