Mayor and neighborhood leaders to kick-off strategic plan for 'Great Indy Neighborhoods'

Indianapolis – One year after convening the city's first Community Development Summit, Mayor Bart Peterson will join civic leaders today to kick-off a strategic plan for 'Great Indy Neighborhoods' that will showcase the benefits of comprehensive community development and strengthen and improve local neighborhoods.

When: Today, October 20, 5 p.m.

Where: The Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School, 3960 Meadows Dr.

The Great Indy Neighborhoods initiative was borne from the continued community-wide dialogue that occurred after the one-day summit. The Community Development Strategy Group, a diverse group of community leaders and residents, have championed this effort, which moves forward the community agenda of "more [civic] engagement and more success in more places."

The initiative calls for a more comprehensive approach to community development focusing on all aspects of neighborhood life and encourages multifaceted, resident-led improvement efforts.

The Mayor will be joined today by many of the same residents and community leaders who attended the summit last October.
