On Thursday, April 14th, 2005 the City of Indianapolis Brownfields Redevelopment Program hosted the 2005 Indy Brownfields Forum. State and local officials were in attendance along with representatives from CDCs and neighborhood associations, environmental consultants and contractors, members of the legal community, city utility officials, developers, financial institutions, and interested citizens.
Speakers included Marya Overby of the Mayor's Office, Chris Harrell of the City of Indianapolis, Andrea Robertson of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Sara Westrick of the Indiana Development Finance Authority, and Will Pritchard of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation.
Discussion topics introduced at the forum included:
- a history of brownfields redevelopment in Indianapolis
- grant and loan opportunities
- tax incentives
- environmental regulations and voluntary remediation programs
The Brownfields Redevelopment Program plans to host forums biannually in an effort to educate and engage the community in brownfields redevelopment and gain feedback.
