Department of Labor (DOL) Grant

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL,) along with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), has created a program designed to increase and improve employment opportunities for chronically homeless individuals with disabilities. Through a local partnership with HUD housing providers, the DOL cooperative agreements enable persons who are chronically homeless to achieve employment and self-sufficiency, thereby precluding unnecessary institutional placements.

The DOL funding awards are supplemented by parallel HUD Shelter Plus Care (S + C) grants. As one of only five organizations in the nation to receive this grant, the Indiana Private Industry Council (IPIC) will partner with the City to implement a program that better allows homeless individuals with disabilities to better live, work and participate in their communities.

While the City has created 42 units of permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless individuals. IPIC will provide an employment services component to participants, truly creating a model for future supportive housing initiatives in Indianapolis.
