POSITION:  Traffic Systems Engineer

SALARY: $55,000.00

JOB NUMBER: 2009-016

POSITION SUMMARY:  City of Indianapolis, Department of Public Works (DPW) is seeking an experienced Traffic Signal System Engineer to serve as a member of a team of staff which aid in the optimization, operation, and timing of countywide traffic signal systems and stand alone intersections for over 1100 traffic signals.  This position is responsible for exercising engineering expertise while providing professional knowledge pertaining to the critical operational functions in the Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:   Bachelor’s Degree in CE and four (4) years of experience. Knowledge of NEMA TS-1 and TS-2 cabinets, controllers and related equipment including system and cabinet level troubleshooting skills. Experience with a variety of telecommunication technologies including serial RS232 and  SNMP & TCP IP Ethernet over fiber optics and FHSS radio. Knowledge of NTCIP standards that apply to arterial operations. Experience with infrastructure design, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and information technology (IT) concepts that apply to Traffic Control Systems. Knowledge of recent developments, current literature, and sources of information regarding transportation and traffic engineering.  Experience with implementing and verifying proper operation of newly designed timing plans. Must have broad experience with a PC operating Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint).  Must posses and maintain a valid driver’s license.
