Community Events & Sponsorships
November 1998
- On November 13, Comcast presented a software package titled "My Personal Tutor" and a coupon worth 1,000 Campbell’s Soup labels to Mark Harper, principal of Arlington Elementary School in Franklin Township. The gift was the result of a campaign organized by MSNBC and Campbell’s. Comcast aired PSAs promoting the Campbell’s program through which schools can purchase computer hardware and other items with Campbell’s Soup labels that the students and teachers bring to school.
- Comcast and Nickelodeon sponsored a premiere of the movie "Rugrats" at the Sony Cherry Tree Theatre on November 21. Comcast customers were given the opportunity to obtain free tickets to the premiere through various on-air promotions. The event included a visit from Rugrats character Tommy, who helped give away dozens of prizes to the kids.
- During the month, Comcast produced Holiday Greeting PSAs featuring Congressman Dan Burton, Senator-Elect Evan Bayh, and Mayor Stephen Goldsmith. Senator Dan Coats taped his message from Washington, D.C. and mailed it to us, and Senator Dick Lugar, who was in Russia at the time of our initial taping, visited the office in December and taped his message at that time. All spots are currently airing on Comcast’s system and have been made available to all cable systems statewide through the Indiana Cable Telecommunications Association.
- Comcast taped five Newsmakers segments in November. Because the spots are airing in December, we primarily featured organizations with a "holiday connection." Guests included Carolyn Foust, Star/News Season for Sharing, Dorothea Green, United Christmas Service, Major Robert Scott, Salvation Army, and First Sergeant Keith Stephens, Toys for Tots. Councilman Rozelle Boyd also taped a spot in November.
