Community Events and Sponsorships
December 1998
- Comcast arranged for free admission to the December 5 premiere of the holiday movie Jack Frost for approximately 100 students from North Wayne Elementary School. All sixth graders with at least one "A" on their report card received a free pass to see the movie.
- Comcast sponsored "Winterfest at Historic Fort Harrison", a holiday light show formerly held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Proceeds from the event benefit Kiwanis and Riley Hospital for Children.
- Two Comcast representatives attended a December 10 luncheon at Warren Central High School’s Walker Career Center. Comcast has been a "Partner in Education" with the school for a number of years, donating equipment so students can wire their school with cable. During the luncheon, Comcast renewed that commitment for 1999.
- On December 11, five Indianapolis-area students and two adult chaperones flew to Washington, D.C. courtesy of Comcast. The students were the winners of last spring’s African-American History Challenge, sponsored by Comcast and 100 Black Men of Indianapolis. Comcast also arranged for the students’ visit to the Black Entertainment Television studios in Washington. The students were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the BET facility, watched a taping of the BET program "Teen Summit" and met the show’s hosts over lunch following the taping. The trip will be featured later this month on WAV-TV’s "Multicultural Points and Perspectives".
- Disabled American Veterans honored Comcast during a December 18 luncheon at the Tyndall Armory. Throughout the holiday season, Comcast aired 30-second Public Service Announcements and a 25-minute documentary about homeless veterans.
