Community Relations Report
October 2001
Production:
-
Scheduled 30-second promotional spots on our Indianapolis, Carmel, Zionsville, and Fortville systems for local arts groups including the Indianapolis Symphony, Phoenix Theatre, Dance Kaleidoscope, Walker Theatre, and the American Cabaret Theatre.
-
Scheduled several public service announcements for the Red Cross "September 11" fund, Breast Cancer Awareness initiative, and a spot for the rescheduling of the local Hispanic Community's "Fiesta 2001."
Education:
-
Assisted VH1 with a "Save the Music" news conference at Louis B. Russell Elementary School. A check for $100,000 worth of band instruments was presented to four Indianapolis Public Schools that were the recipients of the 2001 STM instrument grants. The ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX local affiliates as well as local radio station WIBC covered the event.
-
Assisted with the production of a "Tech-Know-Grant" video project that will be converted to a CD that the 6th-grade students will use for the self-install of Road Runner.
-
Met with IPS Public Relation and Technical Support Branch to discuss the November launch of the "Tech-Know-Grant" project. The launch will be at Harshman Middle School on the 6th of November. Over 200 of the 800 sixth graders will be part of the initial launch.
Community Affairs:
-
Al Aldridge and Karen Pierce met with Indy Parks to wrap up the "Thursday Kid's Classics Movie" project, that Time Warner Cable sponsored at Garfield Park this past summer. We have tentatively scheduled another version of the promotion for next year.
-
Sponsored a VIP hospitality suite in the RCA Dome on game day for the 18th Annual Coca-Cola Circle City Classic football game to raise scholarship money for traditionally Black colleges. The Division provided over $100,000 in support for this year's Classic event. The Division also sponsored 100 "Save the Music" student participants that attended the game. Because of our sponsorship, we were able to get stadium PA announcements throughout the game, recognizing the students and Time Warner's involvement in the "Save the Music" project.
-
Managed the Annual United Way local campaign for division employees. We exceeded our established goal of $12,000 by 9%.
-
Al Aldridge, PR Manager, was elected to the 2001-2002 Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Press Club.
-
Al Aldridge attended monthly board meetings of the Indianapolis Public Schools Education Foundation (IPSEF), the Hispanic Center, 100 Black Men, Hemophilia of Indiana, and the "To Your Health" license plate committee.
