Public Affairs Monthly Report

Education:

Rolled out the IPS "Tech-Know-Grant" project at Harshman Middle School on the 6th of November. Over 200 6th graders were connected to the Time Warner Cable high-speed Internet service. The event was covered by the local affiliates of three major TV networks. Distribution of cable modems and laptop computers to 6th graders at Crispus Attucks and Forest Manor Middle Schools will be in January after meetings with parents are completed in December.

Karen Kennedy Pierce conducted a "Critical Viewing Skills" workshop at the Warren Township Education Services Center. This workshop was at the request of the Marion County PTA Council. Several community PTA leaders were in attendance.

Hosted the C-SPAN School Bus at Harshman Middle School. Over 60 students were afforded an opportunity to visit the bus. WIBC Radio did an on-sight interview at the Bus as well as a morning drive-time interview with Brian Lamb, C-SPAN founder and CEO who was in town to promote his new "Booknotes" book.
Community Affairs:

Scheduled promotional spots on all our cable systems for local performing arts groups including the Indianapolis Symphony, American Cabaret Theatre, Ballet Internationale, Walker Theatre, Indianapolis Opera, and Eiteljorg Museum. In-kind value of these spots was $47.50.

Attended the Indiana Cable Telecommunications Association's (ICTA) Vision Awards banquet. Karen Pierce was awarded the Outstanding Individual Award for her superior efforts with Cable in the Classroom and for spearheading the IPS Tech-Know-Grant launch with IPS.

Sponsored a VIP reception at Barns & Thornburg Law Firm for Brian Lamb, CEO of C-SPAN. Brian was in town for a book signing at Borders Bookstore. Several community leaders and members of the local and state legislature attended the function.

Al Aldridge attended the monthly board meetings of the Indianapolis Public Schools Education Foundation (IPSEF), the Hispanic Center, 100 Black Men, Hemophilia of Indiana, and the "To Your Health" license plate committee.

Price increase notification letters were mailed to all franchising officials to meet 30-day notification requirements. |
