Education:
-
Met with Mary Louise Scheid, Director of Community Relations for IPS to discuss a world wide web partnership. Our discussion resulted in IPS agreeing to provide education information on a monthly basis, which will be added to the Division's web site.
-
Karen Pierce, TWC education coordinator, participated in the Chamber of Commerce "Teacher for a Day" program. She spent the day at Howe M.S. where she taught 6th grade Social Studies classes. This program helps businesses get a feel for teaching in the inner city education environment.
-
Attended a strategy meeting with the Director of IPS Technology, Dorothy Crenshaw, and Road Runner to discuss the status of "Tech-Know Build Grant" project. We have finalized the status of serviceability of the student participants and are now working with the modem provider to determine pricing. Approximately 600 IPS sixth-grade students will have Road Runner high speed modem connections in their homes this fall.
-
Finalized the details of the "Thursday Classic Movies" event being sponsored by our division, American Movie Classics, Indy Parks, and the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Libraries. We will hold 65 screenings of some classic children movies (Babe, Willie Wonka," etc.), which were books prior to being movies. We are promoting the screenings through commercials on the cable system and on posters and flyers in the libraries.
-
Met with Glenn Peoples with the Indiana Web Academy (a division within the Indiana State Department of Education) to discuss how their organization might be able to assist Time Warner Cable in promoting our Cable in the Classroom initiative.
-
Provided a satellite downlink titled: Mind Over Media: Helping Kids Get the Message for the Indiana Partnership Center.
-
Produced the monthly Electronic Education Newsletter and sent it to all of the franchise educators.

-
Met with Amos Brown of the Radio One group to discuss census information that was made available to him prior to it's release to the general public. Amos prepared a break-out of Time Warner's service areas. Significant growth in all minority groups occurred within TWC's service areas. This information was shared with our marketing team. |
