Public Affairs Monthly Report
March 2001
Education:
-
Hosted the annual PTA Founder's Day Dinner at Ben Davis Junior High School. The goal of the dinner is to recognize members of the Marion County PTA for their involvement with the counties PTA programs.

Produced the April edition of the Time Warner Cable "On-line Education Newsletter." The newsletter augments information presented in the "Cable in the Classroom" magazine as well as local education opportunities.

The Division hosted a VH1 "Save the Music" day at the Indiana Capitol Rotunda. One of the local public schools that received instruments from the Time Warner Cable "Save the Music" 2000 local campaign performed at the event. With our assistance, three more local schools will be awarded $100,000 worth of musical instruments this year.
Community Affairs:

The Division sponsored a table at the Indianapolis Press Club's annual fundraiser, "The Gridiron." The event roasts politicians, media, and lobbyists with the proceeds financing scholarships for students majoring in Journalism or Broadcasting.

Hosted the Center for Leadership Development Minority Achievers Dinner, a recognition celebration for people of color within the Indianapolis corporate community. Time Warner Programming produced the audiovisual portions of the evening's event and also hosted a corporate table.

The Division held a Road Runner Launch press conference March 22nd at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. There were over 200 community leaders, legislatures, school officials, and students in attendance. As a part of the launch, the Division partnered with three Indianapolis junior high schools 6th grade classes and hosted a web page design workshop and contest. The web pages were judged by Indiana's State Superintendent for Public Education, the President of the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, and the Mayor of Carmel, Indiana. The winning schools were awarded CompUSA gift certificates. The local Fox 59 affiliate covered the event with a story on the evening's 10 o'clock newscast and follow-up on the "AM" show the following morning.

Set up a Road Runner Launch segment on the "Amos Brown Show," on a minority channel WAV-53. Amos is one of the highest respected journalists within the minority and majority communities. With the Indianapolis franchise over 40% minority, an appearance on the Amos Brown Show is considered a positive outreach move.

Al Aldridge was appointed and confirmed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Public Schools Education Foundation. |
