Public Affairs Monthly Report
September 1998
Production:
- Assisted the Indianapolis Government Channel (Ch. 16) with the production of a video celebrating the cultural diversity of the city. The video is being produced for the 25th anniversary of the International Center of Indianapolis. Shary Hoffman-Meadows is a member of the organization’s Board of Directors and co-chaired the International Citizen of the Year Awards dinner at which a preview of the video was introduced.
- Produced and aired a commercial promoting the Time Warner Cable/Bravo Jazz Concert at the ArtsGarden.
- Continued airing our series of promotional spots for the Attorney General’s Project Peace initiative.
- Produced promotional spots for upcoming performances at the Walker Theater, the Phoenix Theatre, the Edyvean Theatre and the American Cabaret Theatre. These spots are run on the cable system as part of our sponsorship of the arts in the Indianapolis community.
- Produced a recruitment video for the United Way of Central Indiana’s Minority Key Club. Our Human Resources Director, Jan Clark, is chairing the Minority Key Club initiative this year.
- Aired the third promotional spot for the Cathedral Art’s International Violin Competition as part of Time Warner Cable’s sponsorship of the quadrennial event.
Community Involvement:
- Time Warner Cable welcomed the C-Span School Bus at Mohawk Trails Elementary School in Carmel on Tuesday, September 8, and Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis on Wednesday, September 9. In all, C-Span personnel gave 250 students information about C-Span programming as well as information about the C-Span School Bus, which is a 45-foot production vehicle that is capable of doing live events.
- Provided sponsorship for the "3 Cheers for Education" concert benefiting the Indianapolis Public Schools and Martin University.
- Worked with Golden Apple award-winning teacher Ms. Reinkingk to create a 10-minute video showing how the children at IPS School #81 are using the Cable in the Classroom program.
- Agreed to be the cable media sponsor for the 1999 American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
- Provided support for the Arts Council of Indianapolis by sponsoring a table at the annual "Start with Arts" luncheon.
- Provided video support for the 100 Black Men Recognition Ceremony at the Omega Center.
- Hosted a booth at the annual Hispanic Festival held on the American Legion Mall. Promoted our carriage of Univision. The Hispanic community in greater Indianapolis is growing significantly. In fact, a 24-hour-a-day Hispanic language radio was launched this month.
- Sponsored the Circle City Classic Princess Pageant.
- Sponsored six educators, including three school superintendents, at the educational forum at the Great lakes Cable Expo.
- Al Aldridge represented Time Warner Cable at the annual "Indiana Children’s Wish Foundation" dinner.
- Shary Hoffman-Meadows hosted an organizing meeting for "Rangeela Punjab," a celebration of the central Indiana Sikh community that will be held in February, 1999. Time Warner Cable will serve as the key corporate sponsor.
- Shary Hoffman-Meadows, a board member for the Shalom Wellness Center, which serves low income residents in the Indianapolis franchise area, represented Time Warner Cable at a news conference announcing the Wellness Center’s partnership with the National Guard Medical Corp. to provide flu vaccinations to inner-city residents.
