Public Affairs Monthly Report
October 1998
Production:
- Produced and aired a commercial promoting the Amy Stevens Jazz Event at the ArtsGarden as part of our joint marketing effort with the Bravo Network.
- Produced a spot promoting the KoKo Taylor concert at the Walker Theatre as part of our season sponsorship of the Walker.
- Produced a promotional spot for the Edyvean Theatre’s production of On Golden Pond as part of our season sponsorship of the Edyvean.
- Produced a promotional spot for the Indianapolis Opera production of -- The Flying Dutchman. Time Warner Cable is the opera’s media sponsor for the 1998 - 1999 season.
- Ran the Indiana Repertory Theatre’s spot promoting Having Our Say as part of our season sponsorship of the theater.
- Produced and aired a spot promoting Hope Floats, the Sandra Bullock film featured at our Independent Film season opener at the ArtsGarden. In cooperation with The Independent Film Channel, Nuvo Weekly and the Indianapolis Arts council, we will be featuring independent films at the ArtsGarden throughout the winter season.
Community Involvement:
- As part of our major sponsorship of the Circle City Classic Football Game to raise scholarship monies for traditionally Black colleges, Time Warner Cable produced three promotional spots, secured veteran movie actor Richard Roundtree to serve as Grand Marshall of the Classic Parade, and in cooperation with Starz/BET, donated $5,000 to the Indianapolis Public Schools Foundation during a presentation on the floor of the RCA Dome during the nationally televised football game.
- Held a backgrounding meeting with Susan Scott from the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunications System (IHETS) and Dottie Hancock, Executive Director of the Indiana Cable Telecommunications Association, to discuss how our Cable in the Classroom program could be used by IHETS’ statewide distribution system.
- Provided sponsorship to a Sister Cities reception recognizing Indianapolis’ alliance with Cologne, Germany.
- Hosted the judging for the New York Festival’s International Competition for TV News and Public Affairs. Al Aldridge served as jury chairman and hosted local judges Jim Shella, political reporter for the local CBS affiliate; Amos Brown, WAV-53 talk show host; Vanessa Amos, director of the Indiana Black Expo Youth Video Institute; Carolene Mays, General Manager of the Indianapolis Recorder; Ken Montgomery, General Manager of Government Ch. 16; and Carmen Hansen Rivera, local Hispanic community leader and host of HOLA USA.
- Hosted the first Odyssey Local Programming Committee meeting in our studio where members developed criteria for programming that will be locally inserted on the Odyssey Channel.
- · Conducted our annual United Way Campaign and exceeded our employee pledge goal of $12,000 by over $3,000 and improved employee participation numbers by 10% over last year.
- Presented Cable in the Classroom workshops at IPS #81 and Holy Angels grade school and mailed Cable in the Classroom materials to schools and school board members in our franchise areas.
- PR Manager Al Aldridge, who serves as president of the board of directors for the state Hemophilia organization, attended the National Hemophilia Annual Meeting.
- Provided sponsorship to the Indiana Leukemia Society’s annual fund-raising dinner.
- Provided support to Marion County Sheriff Jack Cottey’s "Turn Off the Violence Campaign" and have contacted Court TV to develop a partnership between the network, Time Warner Cable and the Turn Off the Violence project
