Public Affairs Monthly Report
May 1998
Image/Community (Production)
- Produced and aired a public service announcement for the Asante Children’s Theatre.
- Produced and aired a promotional spot for the Eitlejorg Museum’s special screening of a program about the history and culture of Native Americans. The program will be cablecast later this summer on A&E and The History Channel. A representative from the Eitlejorg was involved in the production of the program.
- Aired promotional spots about the Start Smart for Art campaign sponsored by Bravo, Time Warner and the Americans for the Arts. Posters and petition boxes were placed in major theaters throughout the city so that support of arts in education could be shown by Indianapolis residents. The spots will continue to run and the petitions and background literature will remain in the theaters through the end of June.
- We continued airing promotional spots for Project Peace, a program that teaches conflict resolution skills to students. Time Warner is sponsoring this project in conjunction with the Indiana Bar Association and the State Attorney General’s office.
- Hosted a patrons’ reception for the Indianapolis Opera’s opening night performance of Carmen. The opera is one of our numerous "arts" season sponsorships.
- Participated in Career Day at IPS School #11 and supported the IPS Foundation’s Golf Outing.
- Hosted a Carl Hines Jazz performance at our Sunday afternoon concerts in the ArtsGarden.
- Raised $201 for the Red Ribbon Campaign Against Drugs with a Dress Down Day event.
- Sponsored the awards for the Martin Luther King Essay Contest presented by the Indiana Civil Rights Commission at the Children’s Museum.
- Finalized the terms of a new arts sponsorship with Dance Kaleidoscope for the 1998-99 season.
- Provided table sponsorship for the Indiana Civil Liberties Union’s Annual Meeting. The meeting was a tribute to Sheila Suess Kennedy, who is retiring as executive director of the organization. Kennedy actively worked with us over several years to produce local origination programming that was entertaining as well as educational. She served as host for several shows and producer of a youth issues program exploring constitutional rights.
- Met with the Director of Nuvo’s Cultural Institute to discuss support of future arts projects. The institute was very impressed with our "Start Smart for Art" initiative with Bravo and the Americans for the Arts.
