Public Affairs Monthly Report
January 1998
Programming:
-
Produced and aired promotional spots for the following:
1. The American Cabaret Theatre’s production of Decades.
2. Indianapolis ArtsGarden "Jazz Dogs" concert cosponsored by Time Warner and Bravo.
3. The Edyvean Theatre’s production of The Play’s the Thing.
4. The ArtsGarden’s first Independent Film screening, Slingblade, cosponsored by Time Warner and The Independent Film Channel.
5. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department’s promotional campaign to encourage people to report crime and testify in court.
- Produced a three-minute video chronicling the 50-year history of the Marion County Mental Health Association for use at Intro ‘98 fund-raising event.
- Continued production of the Six-Thirty PM, David Miller, and R.O.A.R. shows. Also ran the January Education Showcase show on LO/WAV-53 channel.
Community:
- Committed corporate sponsorship to the Center for Leadership Development’s annual Minority Achievers Awards Dinner that will be held in March.
- Public Relations Manager Al Aldridge served as a judge for the Prelude Awards.
- Completed video spots for Attorney General Jeff Modisett’s Project Peace Program in conjunction with our promotion with USA Network and its efforts with Erase the Hate. A news conference with Modisett to preview the commercials will be held in February.
- Committed to sponsorship of a Children’s Television Workshop during the International Festival of Children’s Television being held in Indianapolis in March. We will be responsible for the "Taking Charge of Our TV" segment of the workshop.
- Working with the IPS Foundation, we have coordinated a promotion that will put a portion of the dollars from each installation into the IPS Foundation’s reading program. Lilly Endowment will match each dollar contributed. We have also begun discussion on additional programs that we can coordinate to focus public attention on the positive aspects of the Indianapolis Public School System.
- Sponsored the kickoff event at the ArtsGarden of Independent Film showings once a month. The first film to be shown was Slingblade. The film showings complement the Sunday ArtsGarden jazz concerts, which are also sponsored by Time Warner and Bravo. February’s feature film will be Hoop Dreams. Both the Independent Film screenings and the jazz concerts are free to the public.
- Held preliminary discussions with Tina Sullivan concerning our support of CLASS’s media campaign to encourage parental involvement in children’s education. CLASS is a nonprofit group of Indianapolis business leaders who are concerned with the public education system.
- Had representation at the Indianapolis Urban League’s Commerce & Industry luncheon.
- Al Aldridge and Dee Dee Benkie represented our division at the Indiana Black Caucus Legislative Reception. Time Warner Cable was also represented at the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce’s reception.
- Provided major sponsorship to the Marion County Mental Health Association’s Intro ‘98, at which the Mayor of Indianapolis welcomes the Indiana Legislature to the city. In cooperation with American Movie Classics, we were able to bring Academy Award-winning actress Shirley Jones to the event for a musical performance. The Mental Health Association was able to increase sales and attendance to the event by over 38%, making this the most successful Intro to date.
- Al Aldridge and Shary Hoffman-Meadows represented Time Warner Cable at the American Heart Association’s "Heart of Gold Ball."
