Public Affairs Monthly Report

October 1997

Programming:

  • In mid-October, we completed the transition of local origination production to WAV-53 TV. Two TWC programming employees were hired by WAV-53 to handle the responsibilities of 25 hours/week of local program production required by our Indianapolis Franchise.
  • Produced and ran commercial spots for several local theatre groups as part of our season sponsorships for these non-profit arts organizations.
  • Distributed copies of the Tapestry of Our Culture program to numerous schools and university-level international studies programs.

Community:

  • Conducted successful United Way campaign, achieving 104% of pledge goal.
  • The Employee Caring Committee conducted a raffle to raise $365.00, which will be used with other employee-contributed funds to purchase clothes and toys for underprivileged families at Christmas.
  • Provided corporate sponsorship to the Circle City Classic football game, which raises money for scholarships to traditional Black colleges.
  • Conducted a USA Network "Erase the Hate & Violence" workshop in conjunction with the Indiana Attorney General’s office and the American Bar Association. Students from throughout the state participated in the workshop. Video from the event will be used to produce six "Erase the Hate & Violence" commercials which will be shown throughout the year.
  • Staffed Time Warner Cable booth at the International Festival. Promoted our upgrade activities and provided customers with information on upgrade schedules and new services.
